Dear Brother
how ar you
this morning and the rest
of the boys and how does
youns cocks stick out.
well I received your letter
the other day and was
glad to hear from you.
so old times is [for ages?] well
he has got a good place
and had better keep it as
long as he can. they ar
puting the guard on to you
pretty hard. we have had
to stand guard 3 times this
week. we have got a new
commisary his nom name
is Bucanon he is a nephue
[page 2]
to old Bucanon. he is division
and brigade commisary all
to gether so you see we
have to drive for the
division have just
as much again to do as
before but for all that I
had rather be here than
to the regs I suppose
you have heared that there
was a little brush above
here the other day. we ar
looking for a move in a
week as so if the roads
get better it was quite
good going before this last
storm it is time they
wer beginning to do some
thing. I expect they will
try some plan to keep your
regiment this summer. I think
this will be settled by fall
I hope it will any way
[page 3]
Daniel Lovell has gon
home on a fulough I
sent some pictures by hum
him. do you hear from the
Sweetser girls (Lide and Sil)
if you write to them I would
advize you to be a little
careful what you say. I may
be mistakened but think they
ar a little apt to make fun
you keep dark about what
I have said.
I think the emancipation
proclamation and the
conscription law ar two
good things and every boddy
that goes against them had
aught to be hung that is
the way to end the war
if there has got to be
war in the south north
we mint [1] as well have it
now as ever. if they resist
[page 4]
I’d like to see the old 1st
Maine down there to stur
them up a little.
Father seames to be rite
on his make [watter?] doesant
he well if he can make
aney thing buying horses
and swarping and seling
let him [bo in?].
I had a letter from George
Perley and Aunt L. the other
day they wer well.
I must close and write
