Fort Sumner Apr. 2 [1]
Dear Friend Lizzie
I received
your kind letter last
night I was very glad to
hear from you and to hear
that you was enjoying your
self so well I am well
and enjoying my self well
we have got back to the Fort
a gain but it is not very pleasant
for we are just having our Spring
rain and it is dreadful mudy
now, whare is Cush [2] now
is he at home and what is
he driving at how does he
[page 2, left column]
And [?]amp get along now
I expect the next news
I get will be that he is
married as all of the boys
are getting married around
the Cove, I dont know what
to think of Cush as
I wrote to him some time ago
and have not received eny
ans-wer yet I should like
to hear from him very well
but I know how it was with
me when I was at home I
didnot like to write at all
but now thare is nothing that
I like better than to sit down
and write a fiew lines but
as a general thing I can’t
think of much to write at
a time I often wish that
I could write long letters as
easy as some folks do but
then I suppose it is just as
[page 2, right column]
well but I like to get
a good long letter best
my self I wrote to [3]
Nichols the other day I (don’t) expect
that she will answer it
but I thought that I
would write as I had spare
time. [tell] You may keep
that picture that I sent you
until I get a chance to have
a better one taken as I dont
like that one at all but
I thought that I would
send itas I did not know when
I should get another [to] shan[?]
to have another taken but
I gues that I shall get a
chance this Summer some time
nixt time I shall have one
to suit me or I wont have none
well I dont know as I have
any thing more to write this
time so good by, Isaac Lawry
