Monday Nov 10th 1862

My Dear Sister
I recieved your
Welcome letter whitch was mailed out oct 29th
I received it a bout weak ago it contained
35 cents in money and some mustard I was
very glad to of boath mustard and the money.
We have been marching a little over a weak
we have not had any very hared marches this
time I do not know how long we shell stay
hear nor I do not know when I shell get a
chanch to send this letter but I thought you
would be glad to hear from me at any time
I was glad to hear that you had got the house
fix up so nice I expect Mother feels very
proud lik some other folks did when
they get a new house built I doant
suppoes I would know the old place now
O Hannah i sent you my likeness before we
left boliver hights Please let me know if you
have got it get & what you think of it

I have not any good news to write this time
but I have some sad news to write sad
yes indeed sad I suppoes you see by the papers
or you will see that Gen Mcclenlan has been
remooved from his command whitch corses grate
excitement through the hole armey and I think
it will make a grate deal trubbel there is a grate
meny officcers that will resine there commission
this morning Gen Mcclenlan reviewed his hole
armey for the last time all I could hear for a
bout one hour was c[h]eerring when the Gen rode past
where I was stand I could see tears in his eyes
I could not keep from sheading tears my self
as well as thoasen of others the offersers & men
feel as tho they had lost a dear friend but I
hope it will bee all for the best prehaps it
will bee the meanes ending the war sooner
I want you to let me know what the peopple
think of the moovement at home
I have just recieved your letter dated nov 5th
O sister I was struck terrer when read
you letter I never once thought that I should
see josepef Death in your letter I thought that
he was in some Hospitel several of the boys said
after he was shot sargt Carr sais he done his

Arm up Did Capt Lewis state where
abouts Joshepf was wunded or not
What will Mrs Grifford think of me
by my writeing that Josephef was safe in
some Hosptel she will think that I was trying
to Desieve her but I told her just what they
told me if I had know that Jo was taken
Prisner I should of told you of it I suppoes
he was in some hospitel safe enough
