Harrisons Landing 1862
August 8th
Dear Brother I now take my pen in hand
to Let You Know that My health
is very Good at Present hoping to
find You injoying the Same on the
forth of this month we went up to
Malvin Hill to [try?] some [Rebels?]
and on the Morning of the 5th we
gave them Fight there was only
three Regiments of them one of
them was infintree and Two was
Calvery we formed Battle line
in a Long Field and then they
opened fire on us and a piece of
shell struck a tree and brook
a limb witch struck My gun
and all most Noked me Down I
tell you I thought I was a Gonner
Well We Cept on Marching
on till our Flying artillery
lined up and planted their pieces
and then it sounded like the
Forth of July morning at
Home the First shot We
Fired it sent one of there

Guns Flying we should have
had them if it had not ben
for one of our Gens Men Genl
Hooker ordered the Jersey Brigade
to Go around to the Right of
the Rebel Genl Pederson diso
bade the order and Gave them
a Chance to Clear out we
got 200 any how and then
put him under arest For not
obaying I think that we shall
pay them another visit soon
thare is 60,000 of them thare Now
speaking of solders Genl Hooker
is one he is the bravest man
in the holl army I have not had
a Letter from home For a Fornight
that is the Reason I have ben a
writing For and I cant write a
line till you send me some
postag stamps I have onley this
one Give mother sister and
Charley and Miss Magee
and William sends his Love
to all the Family the next
time you Right tell me
how they are are
