Oct the 8 1862
Dear Father and
Mother As i have
a few lasure momen
ts i [t]hought i would
wright a few lines to let you
know how i am and the best
of it is i have got the janders
and at this present mom
ent i am so weak i am
so weak i can hardly set up but
i feel as though i must wright
a few lines you wrote you hoped
i was as spry as a cricket but you
wouldent think so to see this
child i have bin sick three
days but that ant the worst
of it how is your health i hope

better then mine this
climate dont agree with mt
the first faughtnet [2] i was here
my health was good since that
i have bin dull you wouldent
like the climate there is non
of them north west braceing winds
but it is real muggy in the
daytime and cold and damp
in the night the dews are so
heavy that they will allmost
w[e]t you through at night
this standing on gard in
the night what hurts the
men but we boys shant haf[t]er
stay our her many nonths
longer it has bin confermed
in the paper that there has
bin a commisioner from every
corrupt state to washington
to sew for peace of some kind

but i am afraid it is all in
your eye but i hope not and
if they have it shows that they
are well used up have you hurd
eny thing about it if not it
probily isent true this is a
pease of nonsense & What is
the knews at home have you
made eny sider i should
like som have you got your
aples picked and potatoes
dug and grain thrashed have
upi had eny Frosts yet is there
eny nuts i should like som
what is father doing this fall
does bill farnsworth tremble
as bad as ever tell like to
come our here that he woul
d like is he going with that
schoolmarm yet i think

he takes a good deal of pains
& and now in this boat i am
going to send a basket and
my silk pants f i can
i dont k[n]ow but fred will
send a few things in it
it is such a basket as they
youse down south i want
you to keep this basket till
i come home i shall send
it [to?] shirley [3] i must draw to
a close i send my respects
to all enquireing friends
with a great deal for yourse
so good by till agan
yours with haste

I received a letter
from you a few days since
with a blank sheet in it
now i dont want you to
send eny more [??]
