Dear Father and
Mother isupose you
feel anctious to
hear from me my
health is good at
this time and in
fact i have bin in
nice health since i
got through the janders how is
your health and all the others
at the present time & now i have
not got much knews at this
time there was three regiment
came in here a few days since
the 43, 45, 40 they are in camp
up on the parade ground to day
there was a general inspection of
arms by general foster he is
commanderer of the post he
is a man of about forty years

of age and his hair is as
gray as a sheet he went of
on that experdition an was gon
about a fortnet and went with
about six thousand men then
there was about three in a sir
tain place to which he intended
to bag but wasent there they
came across several skirmish gerill
er bands on the way but met
no force of much importance
there was five companes of
the twenty third that went
but owers dident go there was
two or three that volatered
to go i was on gard that day
so i couldnet go there was
but two or three killed one
of the general aids were thrown
by his horse against a tree
and stove his brest all

in broke his ribs the other
fight the pickets were drove
in there was a speedy call
fall in no quicker sed then
don they marched down on broad
street and stayed there about
a hour then broke ranks
and went to there quaters and
fell in the next morning
and marched ut there
and staid there a while they
dident see them i hurd
one of the cavalry felers say
that they went within
two miles of them they
came down with the inten
tition of takeing of takeing
the place takeing a opptunity
whill most of the foarce was
gon and the generell himse
lf but when they got down

they found that they had
just got back and dident come
eny futher they fire on ower
pickets most every night they
will get cleaned our soon &
they will a move soon think
they will rush them nine
months men & ihear that
general clellen is descharged from
the army of the pertomac
that will make a great change
now i dont think of much
more war knews & i suppose
you wanter hear from the box
i received it not but a few
days since the bred was
all spoilt and most ot
the apples the rest is
all right i should think
that you thought i had a fot as large
as elephant eather pair was to
large for me but rather then wait for
another pair i would ware one of them
and sold these for 4 ½ good by
