North Adisto S C, April 8, 1863 [Edisto Island]
Dear parents as i
have nothing else to
do this morn i thought
i would write a few lines
to you though i dont
know as i shall have
a chance to send it – my
health is good hopeing that
this will reach you the same
and as much better as may
be i received a letter from
you which bore date March
the sixth and was very glad
to get it and the pictur
much more though if yours
and fathers had bin in
it i had began to feel
quite anctious to get one
for i hadend had one from
home for a month [???]

started from helena
on the night of
april the fourth and
i worked all the time from
dark till morn loading camp
equipage and started in the
morn we sailed for this
plaise being whare
the monitors staid a day or
two before though they
started before we reached
here ther bing about
ten in number i suppose
you know whare they were
des[t]ined as well as i
can tell you – this
is a pretty inlet about a
mile wide and n each side
a small village there is
a large church in one of them
and reb ofiser was seen through
a glass in the belfry shakeing his
soard we son got apeice of artilery
in rang and he soon came down
now imust draw to a close
