Newbern July the 18 1863
Dear parents i take time
this morn in writeing a
lines to you my health
is poor or else i should
have written before –
I am in the hospital came
here the eighth of July but
i dont know when i shall
go not till i feel better
- how is your health and
all the others i hope better
than mine,, i received
two letters from you a
short time ago and was
very glad to hear from
you i wrote you a letter
just before we left bogue island
have you got such a letter
i wrote in that i had
better have a box come

out or not that
i wanted some shirts
if i think i had better
by them out here i
can get them for five
dollars a pair if you
send the box send those
draws that i sent for and
some towells and a hankerchi[ef]
now i think i will draw
to a close for i dont
feel much like writing
more for i am weak
and my hand trembles
so that i cant draw a stra[it]
line so good by till
