Mrs Pratt
Some days ago I recieved an ansuer
to the noat I wrote you (informing you of the
death of hour husband) and your brother
wished me to give particulars &c. I was not
aquainted with mr Pratt only by sight
and in such a plase as this were there
are so many comeing in it is no wonder
he shouldent engage my attention per-
ticularly.
The first I noticed of him was at the table
and since then I thought he was doing
well until one day (almost three days
before his death) I noticed he dident go
go down with the rest. the next day I
went over and sat by him a little while.
He dident talk much the most he
daid was in relation to he family
he wanted to git a furlough. Mr Odiome
of the sanetary commission asked him
[page 2]
he would like his discharge he re-
plied that he should The next day
Mr Odiome aplied to our medical
director who promised to attend to
it but it came to late for he was to
week. had Mr Odiome noticed him
some days before I think the prospect
of gitting home might hav revived
him. he died without pain As regards
the funeral services they were conducted
as a soulders funeral generally is
preaching & singing. six soulders (privates)
and one corpral with loaded muskets
accompany the herse to the grave where
after the corpse is lowered they discharge
there pieces over the grave
The plot of ground is at this
hospittal and it wil tell you where
he lays His effects are in the hands
of the steward who wil write to
you in relation to them. Mr John
Roachman is doing wel and
[page 3]
expects to be home on a furlough
soon so he can tell you more
about things as they were
But now I must cloase from
exaustion I subscribe myself
a sypethiser of the afflicted
