Dear Father I now sit
down to answer your last letter
which recieve dated July 18th
was glad to here from home
and to know that you all
are well I am well at presant
We have had a verry wise
spell of wether here for
some time but it is
extreemly warm now
the apples are ripe but
thay wont last long
we was paid two months
pay a week ago the
commishener come yest [1]
erday and I sent twenty

dollars by time I thought
that I would keep the rest
as I want to get me a pair
of shoes and a few things
my boots has done good
serouse thay are not gon
yet thay are good for
wet wether There is good
news about the war we are
driveing them evry day
Old Jackson will have to
nock under when them
conscrips come out here go
expect thay will beat the
wolenteers fighting and
I guess thay will get a chanc
to try it is Wm or frank
drafted tell them to keep
a stiff uper lip and not
put on the winiform if
if william is drafted
and comes out th here he
will kneed his old straw
hat to keep him from
taming and he will find
it not much like rideing
in a horse rake
I should like to be at
home to help you but
