Camp Near Fort Scott
Aug 25th 1863
Dear Father I again
sit down to write you another
few lines in hopes to here
from you and from home
some length of time has passed
sinc I recieved your last
letter I feel ancious to here
from the twenty dollars that
I sent you by the commishoner
if you have not recieved the
chech nar got the money yet
procure my last letter and
take it to providence and
show it to the commishoner
and you can draw the money
I asked the captain and he
said that was the best
method if the chech is lost

he said that the mony is
just as good show that
letter and you can get it
the same I wrote you in my
last what articals to send in
the box we will soon be paid
off again and there will be
some cloathing mony coming
to me and I will send
more then the last
If you recieved the last
please write and let me
know there has been some
excite ment laitly about
a rebel raid one section
of the battery has to sleep
with there cloaths on evry
night thay wont find us
all asleep if thay come
there was verry hard fighting
last week down at shantilla
we could here the guns

quite plain all day
and in to the evening
our folks whipped and
drove them through
snickers gaps and in to the
mountains thay are not
quite as dareing around
here as thay used to be
last winter when lincalns
three hundred thousand
more comes thay will begin
to make tracks for there
hideing plases then ar
elevn months will
pas soon and then good
buy to Uncle sam
stur the folks at home
a little for I want to
read some these long
evenings sis and Wm
must write once and
a while and a few lines
