Camp Near Fort Scott
Oct 9th 1863
Dear Father I again sit
down to rite yow a few more
lines as I am ancious to here
from home and from that check
which I sent in my last
I am well at presant and
hope this will find you all the
same it is begining to be pretty
cold wether out here now verry
cold nights and mornings
I spoke to you in my letter
about sending me some things
in a box I shall soon kneed a
pair of boots and a few other
articals and perhaps it would
be as well to start it soon
I should like to have a pair
of pretty stout boots

and long legs wont hurt them
any as the mud is deep in
this cuntry if yow can get a
good pair at the sore thay
will do but I should a little
rather have a pair custom
maid as thay will ware better
and I think it will pay
for it I will send the mesure
of my foot I should like
B have a pair of boots. a pair
of shirts too pair of stockings
and a pair of lether mittns
sent out here prehaps I
am asking for to much
but such things dont cost
more then half as much
at home as thay do out here
please direct the box to
alexandria Va there will
be no truble in getting
it as I can go there almost

any day with the teems
please answer this
soon for I want to here
from the money if you
dident recieve the check
write to the alotment

the amount which I sent
was twenty dollars
as I am in a hurry to
go to head quarters for
the captain I must draw
to a close but my warm
affections for those at
home will not close
Dont think of much
more at presant love to all
tell sis to write yours in

the piece of tape is the mesure for
the boots the first mark is the length
of my foot and the hole piece the
mesure of the instep you may

have the boots maid a little
longer then the mesure
so that thay will be big
enough
