Fort Smith August 30th /64
Dear Father I now sit down
to write you a few lines to let
you know that I am well and
I hope that you are the same
we got our pay the day before
yester day we got two months pay
I was paid thirty five dallars there
was one daller taken out of my
pay for a harversach and canteen
that I lost on the march a good
meny of the boys had five or six
dollars taken from them
I have sent thirty dollars to you
by the commishoner. I had to
pay a dallar and a half for taping
my boots and a good meny
little articals so that I couldent
send any mare this time tomarow
is the day for mustering for

two months more pay I have
but little time to write now for it
is almost drill call now we some
expect to get out of this business
this fall Give my love to all
