Mt. Jackson Va. 1862
Sunday June 15th
Affectionate Wife
I received your
letters last evening one dated June 1st
and the other june 5th I was glad to
hear from you for I was in as much of
stew to hear from you as you was from me
I have writen to you every time we stoped
long enough if you dont get them it is not
my falt I have done my best. we cannot write
when we are on the march the day you wrote
the first letter june first we wer in the
skirmish I presume all you see in the
leade about our hardships is not half we
went through but we are having a few days
rest now I think for to recruit the men
for some grand move of course we know
nothing that is going on the hint you gave
in your letter about Washington took me
by surpprise for it was the first I had heard
of it we might as well be out of the world as
[page 2]
here. I have writen to dick to your
mother, Emma, Edward, Tom and you
and it is strange id none of them got
through, I wrote to you when I was at
Petersburg, on May 27th and again at
Harisonburg on June 7th I received
two letters from you at Petersburg
I am well and harty as a buck and
enjoy the sport there very well time flyes
very fast with me it will soon be the 4th
July and I hope you will all celebrate the
Day and enjoy yourselves first rate you
said you was at a party, that was all right
go as often as you want to I know you
are lonesome and if you can find eny
ajoyment in going to Partyes I want
you to go, when you can have Propper
company. you say you have trouble at
John Rs. and that you are afraid I will
blame you for it. No Diana I never will
blame you I would liked to have known
the particulars, But I will tell you
[page 3]
what I want you to do , (it is this)
not stay there eny longer. but pack up
all your things and mine and get Dick
to take them up there and if they will let
you stay there pay them for your board
or go some where else and hire it I will
keep you in money while I live and have
my health, for I am determind that you
shall not stay there, nor go there after
you move away I stood abuse there a
good while and when I got out of the way
they thought to still abuse me by treating
you mean I would a dam site rather
they would pitch in to me than you I
dont believe mother has done any thing
wrong but if she wants to see you she can
go where you are if she refuses to let you
go read this to her if you go to Dicks to
live perhaps you can get your letters
without runing after them you self if not
you ,, must,, not walk after them I would
rather you would not hear from me
[page 4]
at all than to have you walk so much
you are wareing your self walking
so much and you must quit it
As to Jeff and Vie I know them not
eny more for they are a chip off the old
block, Mother has always used me well
and I respect her for it, but the rest of
them I cannot respect or have any
feelings for them nor do I ask any
thing of them onley to let you alone
after this. This is the first time I have
ever gave you any orders but you must
not think any thing of for it
is the best thing you can do and you
must be shure and do as I told you
without delay after you get this. I have
money enough here and dont you send
me any. Ohio money is not worth any thing
here, but the Government money is as good
as gold we have to take confederate script
for change, do as you choose with your
money but never spend it sending
after my earcap for you will kneed it
before you die and it would onley be
throwing it away
