Camp Denison [1] October 25th [1862]
Respected Child I
Drop you a few lines to let you now
whare I am and what I am doing
I am in camp Denison drilling in
the sharp shootrs for the 79 Reg I am
well at this time and do sincerly hope
that you are in the same state of health
I want to come home if I can before
we leave here I halve not got my youniform
yet but soon will. there has agreat meany
companies went out this weak for
kentucky. this morning it looks dismol
and evry body wonts to go home the
word is no I cant let you go. for
that is my orders Mary Ellen I halve
had to sleep on aboard with ablanket
till last knight I got my blanket I
would get cold in the knight and would
get oup and go to the fire and worm
then go back to my board again I
would be glad when day come
I donot know one man in the company my
Captins name is Captain Flegle he is avery
nice man if I come home I will come
oup and see you. I must go on drill now
they halve cald ous in line

Jest now in off drill it rains slouly
with some snow with it quit cold and
disagreble I halve not drawn my pay
yet. I halve not heard one word from
one of you since I left. I rote one letter
home to your uncle Elick but halve not
got an ancer yet I am looking evry day

a good girl and mind what Liza tells
