Dear Cousin
I take this
opertunity of writing
you a fiew lines
in order to let you
know that we are
all well at the pres
ent And I hope that
these fiew lines ma
find you all injoying
the same blessing
I received your kind
and interesting letter
of the fourth inst
on the seventh inst
and was glad to hear
from you that you
are still alive and
injoying good health
[page 2]
Well Mary we are
still at the old
Townson Bridge
and I cant tell you
how long we will
be here
you must excuse my
Delay in answering
your letter but the
reason is that I had
writen you a letter
only Two or three days
before that I am sory
to think that you
and Jane are slited
at the Longs partie
but I think iff the
one hundred and eight
teenth jayhocker gets
home this winter
[page 3]
we will sh]ow how
we can slite them
I cant tell yet wheather
we will get home or not
but I think probably
that we will as the
captain promiced that
iff there was any pos-
ible chance that we
could go I have not
seen the captain for
a week he is in paris
I guess I told you
before that he had
been promoted to provost
martial of barbon
county Den Kelley
and three more of
the boys are up there
with him Tell our
folks that they need
[page 4]
look for us until
they see us
Tell them that I
have writen four or
five letters to them
since John left here
and have not received
any from them
No I must bring
these fiew broken remarks
to a close for it about
time for me to retire
Give my best respects
to all inquring friends
Hoping to hear from
you soon I bid you
good night
Henry Johnston and write soon and
give all the news Henry
