Near Harpers fery Sept the 21 1862
Dear mary I take pleasure in Writing you a few
lines to let you know that We are all W that is
gorg and my self is Well and I hope these few
lines Will find you all Well I got your letter
of the 10 yesterday and Was very glad to here
from you Mary you Wanted me to tell
you the Ware news Well I Will tell What
I Can We had on the 17th a afful battel it is sed the
har[d]est that evry Was faught on amarican soil
it began at 5 am and lasted till 7 pm our regam
ent Went in at 6 am and Caim out at 12 m
mary I Went in to the fight in good hart but I
never Want to get in another it Was afful mary
you cant form eny idy how it Was the bulets and
Cannon ball and shells flew as thick as hail
We did not loos meny of our regament
Ed Moris [1] Was shot in the head he
Was mortley Wounded I guess he is dead by
this time Harison Douell [2] Was Wounded

thought not for my part I Cum out about
right With the exc I got a litle cut on
the left arm from a splinter of a shell

rebels got the best thrashing they
ever got We kiled about six time as meny
as We lost mary I Will have to Close
