Thursday June the 25th /63
Dear mother and sister
it is with grait pleasure that i set
down this morning to try to rite
you afiew lines to let you no that
we are well hoping that these fiew
lines may find you and the rest
of the famley well we are laying
here looking for mister reb to light
on us every hour in the day
and if they do we will have ahard
time to save our selves
Jo left us on the 29 of last month
and promiced to rite to me as
soon as he got home but when
he got home he forgot that
there ever was such a felow as me
he has not rote one leter to me
yet this is the day for him to
start to his regiment

calve bayless was ded it is
a good thing i wish all of the
rest of them was with him
and old ike mc adams to
hold them down if i had mi
Way about it i would soon

i will not try to rite much
to you to day for i am not

i hav not had aleter from you
for sum time and so i
will stop for this time
