Camp Dennison
Feb 9th 1862

I now take this opport
unity of writing you a few line to
let you know that I received your
very kind letter I was very
glad to hear from you and to
hear that you and the children
were well Jane wrote to Jim that
Charlie had the dipthera and I have
been very uneasy ever sence for
fear that some of you would have
it I tell you that I was glad to
hear that you were all well
I wrote to you that we were agoing
to be disbanded but when the colonel
when he got back said the dispatch
was all a lie he says the the prospect
[page 2]
is as good if not better than it
was tow months ago I tell you
what it is we cant believe any thing
we hear hear in camp why if a man
tells us any thing we call him a liar
for there is so much lying here in
that we cant tell the truth from a
lie so we call every thing a lie and
let it go you said you would send
me a part of the money you had
but I dont want it I did not buy
any shirts for I thought I might
need the money for something that
I would need worse than I did the
shirts I got strapped down to five
cents once but sence I got to work
I have got some money we do
not get much money for what we
do but will get it when pay day
comes the capt told us to do the work
for the Boys and he would see that we
got our pay.. You wanted to know
why I had to stand Gard the colonel
[page 3]
has decided that the Sader Sadlers
and Black Smiths should stand
gard till they had something to do at
their work so I think we will have to
stand Gard a good while dont you
if the Government is agoing to arm
and equip us I wish it would pay us
up for I want some money to send
to you but I dont know when they will
pay us I am well and have been ever
sence I came to camp
The Orwell Boys are all well at
presant
That pork cake went first rait

affectionate Husband
