In Camp at Centerville Oct 1st 1862
My Dear Wife
It is with pleasure
that I now sit down to answer your
ever kind and welcome letter of the 25
which I recivied last night after I
had gone to bed capts note was in
it but as he has gone home I will put
it in this letter & you can let Him get
the money on it if you dont want to
ask for it yourself
I feel quite unwell now I wish I had
of stayed at camp on Halls Farm
for there is no rebles of any
account here the fight or skermish
the boys had with the rebles was at
Warraton station I suposed it was
near here if I dont fell better by tomorow
I shall go back to camp wher I can
[page 2]
get some thing of the doctor I was glad to
hear that you were all well & hope you
all remain so
I should think the women were recruiting
Infantry quite fast well good luck to them
and I hope they will all be boys for I guess
the war will last long enough to want
them to defend Washington from the
rebles the report is now that our forces
took from a thousand to fifteen hundred
prisoners at Warenton day befor yesterday
but they were most all lame hault or
blind so I guess it did not amount to
much Oh tell Jim that Sime Youngs
was taken prisoner the day our boys
was have you got the silk I sent
in Bens satchel it is time it was there
I supose the capt is at home by this time
I wish I was at home to get some of them
kisses that is layed up for me but I
as afraid I shall have to wait for
[page 3]
long time before I can get them I wouldent
wonder if they would make me sick for
it will be so long before I get home
but darn it all it is most one year
sence I enlisted and there is ondly two
more to serve thats not long it
wouldent be if I was to be [??]g at the
end of that time well I must close
for this time so kiss the children for
me and good bye for this time
From you affectionate
