My Dear Wife

It is with pleasure that I now
down to write you a few lines to let
you know that I am well and
hope these few lines will find you in
the same state of health I have
recd three letters from you sence
I last wrote you one had Edies picture
in it was not damaged much but
a little bent I was real glad
to get it I would like Katies
you wrote that Edie thought it very
nice so do I We were paid off
the other day I sent you thirty
five dollars by express I would like to
have sent more but the cloathing
was taken out of this pay so I did
[page 2]
not get but forty six dollar and I used five
dollars here
I will write you more about our
trip to Richmond as soon as I
get time but I have been so tired
sence we got back that I have
not felt like doing any thing
I am bothered a little with the
nervous complaint I had when
we was in the Shenandoah Valley
it is hard work for me to write
still I have not lost the use of
my arm as I did then I think
what makes me have these spells
is the exposure to the weather and
hard marching
I will put a one dollar Richmond
Bill in this letter it is one I got
while we wer out on this last
raid you must excuse this
poor letter and I will do
better the next time but I wont
write any more now for I guess
[page 3]
it will bother you to read this
so good bye for now
From you affectionate
