My Dear Wife
It is with pleasure that I now
sit down to write you a few lines
to let you know that I am well
and hope these few lines will find
you in the same state of health
we are here now after the rebles
I was in PA Yesterday we went
to Hanover Junction and back
we do not know any thing what is
agoing on for communication is cut off
some where between here and Baltimore
we hear bad rumers one is that Harrisburgh
has surrendered to the rebs I hope it is
not so we have heared cannon
all day and it is verry heavy now
at 7 Oclock PM I expect we will
have to move soon I tell you I
[page 2]
can fight the rebs here or in Pa
the People made great Union demmons
trations when we past through the
towns and we gave three rousing
cheers for the old flag when we see
it floating from the house
I do not know when this poor
excuss of a letter will go out but
I hope soon for I do not get but
little chance to write and I hope
you will get what few letters I
send Oh how I hope the
freemen of the North will turn out
now and fight for their country
I do not see what they are thinking
about I tell you I feel as though I
want to let out the pesky rebles
blood more than I ever did and
if our regt goes into a fight
I shall go with it and you
need not worry for I will come
out all right for I will be doing
[page 3]
my deauty but I must close
for now I will write the first
opportunity I have not got
Kates picture yet not sence you
sent Edies it may come yet
I hope it will write soon
and keep up good courage
and you will get along all
