Dear and beloved wife it gives me pleasure
to bee able to pen afiew thoughts to
you and to inform you that iam well
at this time irote you last Sonday
and Sent you three dollars in the
letter britton [1] Just got here this
morning i hav not Said mutch to him
yet [?] he tells the boys that he
was detailed to Stay at lewisville
ihavnever told the boys anny thing
aboutit for ididnot want his wife
to here it iwill send you two
rings in this letter and Sis one
these little presants you must
take and prise them for the
givers Sake tell Sis that iwill
Send hur another one and one to
Eugene and one to atta the boys
are all well and in good spirets

capten [3] of the company and cheny
as first lieutenant and John
Berry is second and that is all the
promotions that is made yet but
their is more to bee made yet
the boys all likes breuster
firstrate he is good to them
Since he is capten ithink that
we will Stay here Some time
yet we got orders this morning
to buind [4] larger fortifications
and fix up winter quarters
and that dont look mutch like
leaving here verry Soon well
that Soots me firstrate if the
rest will do the fighting we
will gard the bridges and
glad to get the chance we are
living rather poor at this time
we are on half rations and i
think that it is Scarce anuff

it went hard with me to leave
home and all that is dear to

must hope and prey for the
best keep in good spirets
for you and the children is
all that makes life agreable

our Shanty Since i came back
their was Someof the fourteenth
boys Staid with us the other knight
they live at antwerp one was
