May 24, 1863
Dear Father now I take
My Penn in hand to inform
You a few lines to let you
Know that I am well at
Present hoping these few
Lines may find you all the
Same in good helth Also
I received your kind letter
the 22th and i was very glad
To heer from you Also you
State that you herd my
Bounty got stoled Bud that
Is not so for I Dident get
My Bounty yet and I Dont
Think that i get any of my
Bounty not till I am free
Bud we expect to get paid
Sometime this week I hope we
Will for I hat no money since

I am out Bud now we
Shall be Paid of[f] every too
Months Also I would like
Very much if you could
Sent me one Dollar of
Money So that I could get
Myself some tobago for it
Might happen that we wont
Get paid this week and if you
Sent me one Dollar it wont
Be lost and as soon as I get
Paid then I am going to
Sent all the money home
What I can spare further tell
Cyrus if he is going to
Mary marry then he shall
Lay a Barl of wiskey back
Till I and John Goshart get
Home Also I will let you
Know that we got possession
Of vicksburg the stars and stripes

Are Floading over it now
And I think this war
Will soon end now i hope
It may further let me know
How Daniel is getting along
And tell him if he is going
To enlist go again then he
Shall enlist to this Company
I Dont know any news at all
So I must Come to a Close
I sent my best respects
To you all I hope you
Will answer this soon and
Don’t wait so long this time
