March 30th 1865
Dear father I take the pleasure
to write a fiew lines to let
you know that I am well
at present hoping you are
all the same I also let you
know that we have news of
a great victory down at
Peters Burg but I dont think that
John was in the fight as
much as I can learn in the
news paper the fifth corps
was not engaged in the battle
futher I let you know that
our cavalry is down with genral
grants army that is all the
mounded men but the dismounded
men are still here I think we
will stay here a while I also
let you know that I sent

a letter home with twenty
dollars I wish you would answer
that letter as soon as you can
and let me know wether you got
that money and I want you to
direct your letter to this place
I will give you the direction
at the ent of this letter
our mail gose down to Petersburg
if you dont direct them to
this place then I wont get
them if they go down there
I also let you know that
I sent my picture home a
while ago inform me also about
that and about senting home
clothing I think I and
Cyrus Engle will sent some
home one of this days
futher I let you know
that we have bad weather
at present it was raining allnight

at present I hope to here from
you soon Send Stamps in
your next letter I will close
