April 7th 1865
Dear father I take the pleasure
to write a few lines to let
you know that I am still in
good health hopeing that you are
all enjoying the same further I let
you know that I received a letter
from you before we left the camp
up in plesent valley and also one
from Cyrus and I answered Cyrus
letter but your one I dident answer
because i had a letter sent of[f] for
you the day before and I thought
I would wate on answer for that but I
got no letter since futher I let you
know that we are encamped about
thirty miles from washington on
the maraland side we came on the
cares from plesent valley to Washing
ton and then we were Shipt on

drantsports down hear we have
a nice camp haere Just along Side
the river the boys are all expecting
to get home before long I dont
know how long it will yet but
I [we?] dont need to fight eny
more I think we will have a
great time when we get discharged
about brother John I dident hear
eny thing this long time if you
write let me know if you heard
eny thing of him futher I let you
know that I got them postage
stamps that you sent me I
also let you know that I sent a
little Song book home when you
write let me know if you got it
or not I dont know eny more
particular news at present
there are many different reports about
geting discharged but I dont know
eny time to mention for sure yet
when it will be but I they wont

is finished now I will come
to a close for this time
answer soon and give me
all the news from your son
