Camp near Warrenton Va
July 29th 1863

Aunt Matilda
I have Just
received your letter this after
noon I was Happy to hear
from you and to hear all
the folks was well you wanted
me to Stait what I new about
George. Aunt Matilda on the
2nd day of July about 9, 0,clock
in the moning our regt was sent
out on A Skirmish to hunt up
the rebles we found them and they
Cum down on us with 3 lines
of battles we hadto fall back
Slowly to our suport and when
we got back thar George was
missing and wheather he was
wounded or killed I Cant Say
but I think he is A Prisener

what makes me think that
he is A prisoner is becaus we lost
sum Priseners and when the fight was
over we went and tride to find
George but we Could not find any
thing of him if he had been
killed we wood of been apt to of
found him on the field we
hunted the battle field all over
and we Could not hear nor find
any thing of him
now I will tell
you whare Chase found his news
he was to our Regt. after the
fight and they was talking about
George. we had heard that
George was Caired of off [1] the field
the 3. and was shot through the leg
and body I went to the Hospital
and found that man that they
Called George and found out that
it want George. but it was A
man in Co. A he loocked sum
like George but it want him

I have tole you all I no
about him I wished I Could
tell you whare he is but I Cant
I hope and Pray that he is all
wright George was A good Soldier
he allways dun his duty like A
man and A Soldier if he was
shot he died in his own native
State he has fought for his Country
he has showed him self A man
but I think that he will turn
up sum whar yet if he is A
A prisener as soon as he is parrolled
he will writ to me and you
and if you hear from him write
to me and let me no whare he is
and if I hear from him
I will write to you.
this leavs me well
and injoing good health and
I hope these lines will find You
all injoying the same blessing
