Dear Mother
I received your letter last night
and I was verry glad to hear from
you I am well at presand and
hope you are also enjoying the same
gread blessing. I was verry glad to
hear that Soloman was at home
a gain and and I hope he will
Stay there I am anough out of the
family to fight for unkle Sam
and live on hard Crackers [ald?] I
like it verry well sins I am
with the regt we got to our regt
yesderday the 6 of Oct we left Camp
Ellthworth [1] on saturday 3 [?] 3

we traveled three days and three
nights we went two days on
the Cars an Come from Washington
to Harpers ferry round by Baltimore
there were 705 on the train we went thru
a gread many plasses where they had
faught and dis troyed every thing
at harpers ferry everry thing is burnt down
and at sharps burg ther houses are
rittled with balls and shells nearny all
the jimleys are shot of[f] the buck houses are
all facket and the Streets are laying full
Shels and Balls I never seen such a sight
and the battle ground is laying full
of dead horses yacht. I must now Cl
ose my letter The mail is ready
write and tell me how you are
geting along I would write more
if I had time we are not in
