Camp near New Baltimore
Dear Brother I have
Received your kind and wellcome

verry happy to hear that you are
all well. I am well at presand
and I hope wen these few lines
comes to you it will find you
all enjoying good health
you requested me to let you know
how I liked soldiering yacht
I like it verry well as long as
it agrees with me as well as
it has agreed with me so
far I am now over one year in
service and never have been
sick of any acch yacht
and I am heardyer and heavyer
then I ever was before I listet [1]
I think I weigh about 160
lbs now
[page 2]
I have often tried what I
could stand I have laid on
the ground half covert with
water and raining as hard as
it could and I never as
much as to ketch a cold
and I have always a verry
good apitite wen we was on
this long march to Pa.
I had lost some in weight
we couldend sometimes get
rations for a few days
and sometimes if we had
it we had to march day
and night that we had no
time to cook or eat the
day we went in the battle
at Gettesburg we marched
20 hours without rest or
any thing to eat it was so
[page 3]
thirty miles we marched and
the restet about one half
hour then we went double quick
in the fight and I [feel?] do
I could run right thrue
the rebells Thomas Walker was
a little mistaken wen he said
that I couldend stand marching
I never strageld sometimes
there was three or four
with the company and I
always was one of the
number wen we stopt
you statet that you would like
to get in our Regt I am not
aware of that if thay have there
choise to get in any Regt
thay choos but I should think
you had if you get draftet
I would try my best to get
[page 4]
in this Regt we have got a
verry good Col. I am still serveing
the Lord and intand to do
so till I die it is hard to
keep from the many temptations
that are round me all the time
and no one to incourage one
but I do the best I can. There
hand much of any news
now we are laying still in our
camp Dear Brother pray for
me and I pray for you
