Camp near Culpeper Corthouse
Dear Sister I have receive
your kind and wellcom letter
last evening and I was
verry glad to hear from
you onst more and to hear
that you was enjoying good
health. I am well at
presand and I hope wen
these few lines reaches
you thay will find you the
Same. we are laying still
yacht in our camp but
we had marching orders
several times but it was
countermantet the other
day we had packed up
every thing ready to start
and are here yacht there
are so many diferant
rumers fling thrue camp

that we cant hardly believe
any some sais that the
hole army was falling
back to Washington
and others that we was
going for ward that our
Cavelry was in Gordens
ville and others that we
was to stay here to hold
this position but we dont
know which is the true
story. there is also strong
talk that our Regt was
to go to Pottsville to
reliefe the 10th New Jersey
we have some verry cold
nights now to lay out
but we are used to
the thing. we have got
eight days rations to
carry and that makes one
think that we are going
to make a long march

Dear Sister I am sorry to
hear that mother has such
soar feet but I hope
thay will soon get better
that she can get around
ons again for it is a
lone some thing to stay in
the house all the time.
I havent got much time
to write I haf to go out
on picket at eight
oclock and it is almost
time now if you please
sent me some postage
stamps for it is an article
that cant be got here
O how I do wish that them
irish drunkerts would
get draftet so thay would
get out here where thay
would get weaned of[f]
the thing thay haf to be all
temperance here if thay

buy whiskey here thay haf
to pay three Dollars a bottle
that has a bout a pint [on?]
and if thay get drunk get
tied to a tree twenty four
hours in the barken [1] you must
write soon I am always anxious to
hear from home I sent
my love to you all and I
exspect to see you for long
if we get to go to Pottsville
