Camp near Chantilia Va Oct 16 the 1863
Dear Mother I take
the presant opertunity to
write a few lines to you
to let you know that I am
well at presant. I havent
received no letters from you
lately we dident get a mail
for nearly a week sins we are
on this retreat. some of the Corps
have been fighting the last three
days but as luck happent
our Corps dident get in our
engagement yacht
but we exspectet yesderday
to be attactet but thay dident
come we are entranched here
now and ready for them.
Dear mother pray for me
and I pray for you and
keep up your spirits and
dont trouble your self about
me the Lord is with me
and I hope he will spair us
all to meet each other for
long if not in this world
I hope we will meet in heavan
