Camp near Brandy Station Va.
April 13th 1864
Dear Sister I received your kind
and wellcom letter last Sunday
and was verry glad indeed to
hear from you and to hear that
you was all well wen you wrote
I am also well at presant
and hope this letter will find
you the same. I would have
wrote sooner but there was an
awful freshet here and distroyed
severral railroad bridges and then
the mail dident go out for
several days. I am a headquarters
gard now yesderday I was detailed
out of train gard in to this the
train gard was sent to there
Regimants all but me and another
fellow Col. Upton sent to our
Sagent to detail thatwo best men

of his gard to report to his
head quarters and I was one
of the luckey ones I will
have a gread deal better times
here then I would at my
Regt we will get our knapsacks
hawled and are always with
the train so we needent to carry
more then one days rations
and neet not go in a fight
this summer.
I think we will move before
long thay are making gread preparations
for it now.
Dear sister you said I should sent
my picture to you but I cant do
it now all the likeness Schobs [shops]
are orderd out of the army
Rosanah you are greatly mistaken
about me thinken that I would
Soon get married after I would get
home I hand altogather as fast as

that I am mearly Corresponding
with a yong lady for pass time
and mutual improvemant. as
long as both me and my mother
lives I am determint not to
get married if I get fifty
times an old batchelor I think
more of my mother then all
of that comes to let them
marry away all I care
I dont know hardly what els
I can write you must soon
write for ther may not be
any chance to write after we
move you are improveing fast
in writing you write verry
plain. I sent ten dollars
to mother in an envelope
in the last letter that I
sent to solomon and I
would like to know if she
got it
