Camp near Petersburg Va Jan 19the 1865
Dear Mother
I received your kind and wellcome letter a fiew
days ago and I was verry glad to hear from
you onst more and to hear that you are all
well I am also enjoying good health and
I hope wen this reaches you it will find
you enjoying the same good blessing
I do not know a greaddeal of news to
write to you to day perhaps till [1] I write
again I will hear some news from some other
quarters of the confederacy the rumer is here
that we was to go to Willmington .N.C.
but how much truth there is in it I do
not know but there is some information
of reliable sorces yacht it may all be
talk as many other things are I hope
we wont haf to go for we have verry
comfortable quarters here and get good
rations and not a gread deal to do. we have
got a verry comfortable tent and a good
bead to sleep on we have got four blankets
for two of us and plenty of hay to lay on

I am about as comfortable here now as I would
be at home with the exseption of one thing
that is I hand got no church and prayer
meeting to go to which I would enjoy
very much if I was home. if the Lord will
spair my life I will have the pleasure of
retturning home in seven month from this day
you stated in your letter that you would like
to have me come home this winter perhaps
I will but for my part I am not verry
anxious to go as long as we are all well
and there is hopes that I can come home
for long to stay. there is some hopes that we=
(thoes that was enlisted in 1862 [?] under the
impresion of being thischarged [?] wen the regiments
time was expired) = may get out this winter
there is a bill goen in the war department
sometime ago to have us thischarged this winter
and it may probably be passed
Dear Mother I am verry well satisfied if
I haf to endure hardships if only this rebellion
will be put down the right way and soon
for I think there is now enough blood spilt
to wipe out Slavery and restore our union onst
more.

I think I must soon close my letter
for it is time for me to retire if
I want any sleep before I go on duty
at twelve oclock I haf to get up to
stand gard two hours I am on gard two
hours every night. we have verry fine
weather now it is not cold and the
ground is dried up so that traveling is a
little more pleasant then it has been
some time ago the climate is a gread
deal warmer here then it was where we
was last winter. so no more at presant
