Camp Curtin July 3rd 1863

Dear Mother and Friends at
home I take the present oppertunity
of droping you a fiew lines to let
you know that I am enjy ing
my Self as well as the rest of the
Boys and I like Camp life very
mutch our Company is closed or
will be to day we have 69 or 70
me[n] in our Company now
The Captain Says that we have Enough
We have a good Captain he is liked
By all We hav got out Clot[h]s and some of
our Camp equipage but not our arms
there is A greate eal of Confusion
here in Camp the boys gets pretty
well cooled off about 12 O clock at
knight there is Some 5000 600
men in Camp Curtain and a
great many on the hill on the

other side of the River on Wednsday
Evenng we could hear them
Canon ading in the direction of
Carlisle and a gre fier Could be
Seen for Some time the next day we heard
that Rebls had burnt the
Barracks at Car lisle the Town
was in a great up roa[r] the Whole
knight Con sider able number
of Rebs come her last night as
they said they wold come but
they came under a gard and
as dirty looking Custermers
they wer put in the Gard House
all knight with a Gard put a gard
[???] it This morning ther was
a man Cume to us Just as we wer
going out to drill and asked the
Captain if he should Read the
news to the Company the Capt said
he Should he then Red as follows
Dispatch from Baltimore
General She[??] has Captured

6000 Near Getis burg 2400 of
them has arrived at Baltimore
We then gave three Cheers that
mad the Whole camp ring
he then Went to the Rest of the Comp
nies and a continual Roar of
Cheering went on for
more than an hour We have as
mutch as we can eate and live
first rate yester day w had to
move our tents to anoth place
The probablity that we will be
mustered to a Regament to morrow
or soon there is 2 Companies in
a head of us from Mifflin County
Frisingers brother is in one and
our Company will be named
C we think there is 2 men thats
wants to Collonel Both from
Mifflin Co and wer Cptains with
McClellen on the Penensula
McClay and Isenbise

We hav Got our Clothing boxed up
it will be sent to Thompson town
in Care of John Stitze as soo they
take freight some of my Cloths I am
going to keep they will be all rolled
up in a bundle with my name on
them in the pocket you will find
the tesament that you gave me
we wer all furnished by the Union
tabernacle wit tetaments and
tracts all so with paper and envelope
to write leters free of Charg
there has been near 600 letters
maled this fore noon and there
will be 4. or 500 more this after noon
men are pouring By hundred all
the time on d[??] there was 4 Companies
Came in all to gether and 500 came
after dark last knight a number
of cannon came in last knight
wel I will have to bring my letter
to a close for it is time to go to
dinner If you write to me Direct
to Harris burgh Care of Capt
Degan and if we are here then
