Camp Near City Point  8 Nov. 1864 
Dear Father I take my pen in my 
hand to let you know that I am 
all well at presind And I hoop thes 
few lines may find you in the sam 
state of good health. 
And futher I let you know that i 
recve your letter and I was very glat too 
see in your that you ar so well 
pesind and I recve 2 Dollars mony 
and 3 Post stems and Dear father 
i hat enuf money for wilbe samuel 
sent me some tobaco and we hat 
plenty to eat  Ungle [1] same givs us plenty  
eat. And futher I let you know that 
we hat splenty times to day we 
hat wisky this morning and 
some did buy them others boys 
thar wisky rashes of for on 
the Lections to take a spree  thay

Pay 10 to 20 cents A drink  that is to much
