March 31st 1865
Dear Husband
I sit down to
night when all is still to talk with
you on paper we are all well at
this time and have been since
you left I hope this may find
you enjoying good health and
spirits I received yours of the 4th
of March Bermuda hundred but
none since I expect one tomorrow
it seems a long time to me we
have had high water here this spring
two weeks ago the water took every
thing along the creek bridges foot
logs fences and some old buildings
we have a foot log now at Fouses
yesterday it began to rain last night
it rainded very hard all night the
waters are very high to day I can’t
send the children to school now the
water is so high I still have wood
that you cut I got a little cut since
they have got the township nearly clear

and no draft yet it is my
daily prayer that you come
home safe sometimes I fear
I shall never see you more in
this world but I still hope to see
you again I keep in pretty
good heart considering all things
I dream of you every night
I never got your clothes yet
[Anraneth?] has been at Hollidays
burg since but never brought
them Adam talks of going over
soon for their clothes then will
bring yours I received 35 dollars
that you sent by express
let me know what things you
left at kamey’s so I know if I
gets all Jake has got our sheep
that was at William Fouse’s
the fence blowed down and
the sheep went over to his
it has a beautiful lamb he
says they must prove it is yours

before they can have it they
sent for it but would not
give it up I was down on Monday
to see about it William says
he will make oath if needs be
to it never mind it will
come all right it dont vex
me a bit we still have friends
they had a story going on piney
creek that I was turned out
this house since you left Henry
Wolfkill come to tell me I should
have the house he lives in if
it was the case. Cllappers [1]
moved last week Henry moves
next Monday Gorsuch has moved
too he was very drunk kate
cllapper says I must tell you
she calls her boy Fleetwood
Henry wolfkill wants you to write
to him direct Mill Creek
Huntingdon Co the children send
their love to you Ellie wants a cracker

I do hope you will come
home soon but we must keep
in good heart and pray for
the same blessing home is
very lonely without you
I miss your kind voice in
the evening especially I hope
the time will come soon when
you will come home to live
many happy years with us
we will keep up a brave
heart and trust in God all
will work together for our good
it is nearly eleven oclock I
must close I give you into gods care
hoping to meet you again
