Clover Creek August 2nd 1865
Dear Fleetwood
I set down again to day to write you
a few lines we are well at present and hope this
may find you well yesterday I was away from home
collecting some of my money that I earned 2 years
ago I got 7 dollars and a quarter we are getting along
very well in money matters and other things too
I was looking for that certificate to send to New
york it is not in your chest I cannot find it any
place about the house there was a envelope
in with your papers it had some papers in but not
the certificate it grieves most awfully about it
now use must lose all if that is not found it
seems strange about it I am satisfied it is
not about the house but perhaps it is still for
our good you know it might be all a hoax and
we were not to give any more the rest of
them are sending theirs this week Aurandt
says he will pay the 8 dollars now right away
if I could get the certificate the 8 dollars
are of no use if it cannot be found and the
10 dollars too we will lose write in your next
what you think about it and what I shall
do I would like to write a goodeal this time
but Fouse’s are writing now on this they are
going to Martinsburg to day I will send this
along I look for you home in the month
[Page 2]
to stay I hope I will not be disappointed
we have rain here to day again the
gnats are very bad I can hardly write
your letters are great comfort to
me I can read them just like print
mine are beastly written you know I
am in a hurry or I will miss the
chance of sending it away I have
sent more wheat to the mill I will
not send any more till you come
home if we get out of flour I guess
we will do without eating so you had
better come soon I feel in good spirits
to day I look for you home soon
I sent a letter to springfield yesterday
I will send this to day in the letter
I will send you more you must
keep in good spirits I think the
time will soon come for you to meet
us at home dont forget to pray
and I wont either now I must
close I will write again more
the children send their love to you
and I too I am your affectionate wife
good bye dear husband Mollie Benson
