Dear wife
I thaught I would drop you a fiew
lines to let you know that I am well and
in good sperits and I Hope this letter will
find you all the Sam I am Here yet in
fort fisher and Haint never Ben to the Regt
yet Since they left Here they marched on
up to willminton and captured that
Place and I Expect they Have gone on By
this time and if they Keep marching on
and I stay Here I guess it will Vesometime
Before I catch them I dont Knw weather
they lost manny out of our Regt at the
fight up at wilmington or not for
I cant Hear from them Sometimes
we Hear that our Rigt charged the Rebs
works on the Right and lost two Hundred
men the the next news we Hear is
that there wasent But one man Hurt
[page 2]
verry anxious to Hear from the Rest
of the Noys for if I Had a Brother in
the Regt I couldent feel more anxious
to Hear from Him than I do to Hear from
the Boys that I tented with But I cant
Hear a word that I can rely on you
must write often and the letters
will got to the Regt and when we go
on and catch them I will get them
I think we will Be Sent to the Regiment
Before long and I dont Keer How
quick although we Have Better times
Here than we would if we go to the Regt
I tell you our forces is chacing the
Johnes clear our of the land of the
living I just Saw 400 prisoners
Braught in and Sent north yesterday
and we Have Recaptured ten thousand
union prisoners that was in the
Johnes Hands and the army moves
gloriously on and will Keep moving
on But the papers will tell you all
and I must close for the want of Room
