Wilmington NC march 15th 1865
Dear wife
I Recieved this letter last night
and was glad to Hear that you was well
and I am glad to Be able to let you
Know that I am well and in good
Sperits well mimy we Have got
marching orders we are going to leave
Here today under light marching orders
we are orderd to throw away woolen
Blankets and Everything But one change
of Clothing and gum blanket and
Shelter tent noboddy knows where we
are going But I Suppose we are going
to join Gen Shermans forces at
fayettsville Hugh Conner is sick He
will Be left at wilmington at the
Hospital I gave Him ninty dollars
to get Expressed Home to you He will
get a Reciept and send His wife and
She will fetch it up to you and you
can take the Reciept over to town
and draw the money on it

I guess it wont matter weather
you Have the Reciept or not for you can
draw the money without the Reciept
when it comes I must close for
we are packing up for astart
you dont send Half Enough
Post stamps I am Entirely
out or was until this letter came
and Brought me four you must
write often and direct Washington
DC or the Same as Before
