RALEIGH NC Apr 26th 1865
Dear wife
I Recieved your kind and
affectionate letter last night and
was verry glad to know that you
was all well Except [fall?] I was sorry
to Hear he was sick But I Hope the
next letter will say that He is well
again for there is nothing like
Good Health at Home or abroad
and I am glad to Be able to let
you know that I am well and
feel fine ownly Verry anxious to get
started northward for the Sun is
getting verry warm in these parts
well mimy we Had marching orders
this morning noboddy knew where
we was going But at 4 oclock this
morning the Bugle Sounded for
all Hands to get up and get Ready
for to march there was all Kinds

of speculations as to where we was
going But noboddy new at Six oclock
we all fell in with Every thing on
and formed the Regt in line and
Stacked arms and waited for
orders we lay around about two
Hours and then got order to go Back
to our old camp and pitch our tents
again and stay where we was
So you see we are snug in camp
again How long we will Stay Here
I cant Tell But its my opinion that
as soon as we are musterd for
pay again we will move from
Here and we will be musterd
on next sunday the last of the
month for we are allways musterd
for pay Every two monts so you
see we Have 4 months pay coming
from the Government Besides
two thirds our Bounty we Have
Reviews inspections and drills
Continually thats the order of the day

I forgot to tell you that the letter
I Recieved last night Had two
Post Stamps in and I got the
Philadelphia Inquirer with the
partiuclars of the murder of the
president of the United States
in it I Recieved the Record of the
Times also dont you take the Record
anny more or what is the Reason you
dont send it oftener you said Jo
Keller illuminated His House when
He Herd of the murder of Abram
Lincoln if we was at Home we sould
light it up for him outside and in
the Soldiers will Be coming Home
one of these fine days then look out
for Trouble in the copper Heads
camp I dont know anny thing
about it But I Believe when we
Break camp again it will Be to
march northward and the Time
cant come too soon But I must
