Dear wife
I Recieved this letter yesterday
and was glad to Hear that you was
all well and I am Happy to be able
to let you know that I am well
and hearty But I should like to
Hear the Bugle sound for us to Pack
up and march Homeward But I am
afraid it will be two or three months
yet Before we get way from this
State the sun is verry warm down
Here and it still gets warmer But
I think we can stand it if we
Have to But it will Tan us pretty
Black By the time we get Home
you Say Bill Jones is awful Black
but I guess by the time we get Home
we will Be Rather Blacker than
He is I guess He come Home Rather
unexpectedly I dont suppose they
was looking for Him Home when
He came and I think He was Verry
[page 2]
foolish to think of Going Home
when His time is so near out for
He cant stay but a fiew days and
then it will come Harder than
Ever to come back and sleep on
the Ground and Eat Hard Tack
and Salt Horse and Salt Pork
I sent you a Hard Tack in a
Letter some time ago But you never
Have said weather you got it or not
you dont gt Half the letter I send
you I sent you and that one yesterday
togather I am glad you are going
to get the Big garden planted
with cabbage for I think it will
fetch good cabbage But I must
stop writing for this time
you must write often not wait
so long as you generally do
Direct as Before I Have got Enough
Postage Stamps to do me awhile
