Aprile 20 th 1863
Dear Sister Ellen
I once more take the opertunity
To inform you that I am well at this time
And I hope these few lines may find you
the same the weather is most as warm
as it is in the north in harvest time
the black burrys is nearly ripe and there is
plenty of them & we have a well of good whater
here but not as good as that of chester County
I suppose you have herd of the Expadition to
Charles town before this time as you can see
the papers every day this is the nicest place
that I have bin at yet Mr William H Martain
sends his pious reguards to you as a friend
he is a bed fellow of mine he is present
at this time
I received your kind letter about
A week ago and was very glad to hear from
you once more and I received that box that
you and Louisa sent me with those shurts
in they fit me bullie and I think them
where very nice cakes also there has bin
Nothing new transpired here Since the
Retreet from Charlestown

There is one thing more that I
Must tell you a little incident that
occured in the 9th Main Regt there was one
of them had a young Soldier [1] about
2 weeks ago there was a Lady listed when the
Regt first went out and she was not
discovered till she had the child
I was on picket day before
yesterday well it is nearly Role call
And I must bring my letter to a close
By asking you to write soon
No more at present
But still remain your
