Dear Cousin
It is with
much pleasure that I this Eving
scribble to you a few lines In answer
to your very kind and well appreciated
missive of the 25th which came to Hand
this day with the ming [2] mail and
I was very glad to Hear from you
and that you were all well you
must be p[ower?]ful werkers down there
when you are so near through Harvest
and It Has been such a backward wet
Harvest I think I see your father and
pap going for the Hey I suppose Will
Mitchel and Jim speers would be no
wheres while them old [tads?] were in

the Harvest field we should not speak
slightingly of old age as age is
Honorable I am glad to Hear of you
gitting along so well with that
Dress I suppose that place I tore did
not Hirt is much as they thought
It would I am sorry I did not Have
the time to stay and Help to
finish it and go withoyou to
the great fire works It would be
a fearful walk for you I have
an Idea that Ranse McC thinks
He Is the recipient of one of the
blessings of the world - Mary thank
to you for Inviting me to you picnic
If It Is in my power to get off
hom work I will most assurdly
go I know we would Have a splended

time I will Have to go down and
go with you as It Has been so long
since I was at a picnic that I would
not know How to conduct my self
and my mother would not want
to go and take me I would like
very much to go down there and
spend a week or two with you
as I am almost worn out with
fatigue and toil and we could Have
a splended time I think we will
Have a vacation soon If we do not go
out to the state of Indiana Sam
Parshall is talking of going out
there to repair a furnace and If
He goes I will Have to go along
and He Is afraid to go for the
colory [3] Is very bad In parts of
that state we Have about two weeks
work to do Here yet and again
we get through with It I will try
to take a leave of absence for a while

It Is getting late and I guess I
will Have to bring this scribbling
to a Close for the presant It Is
raining po[we]rfully Here now If It
keeps on raining till M[orn]ing this way
and with what It rained to day
the dust will be well laid sure
If you call your writting noncense
what kind of a name will we give
this scribblin and you spoke
about writting with a led pencil
I would just as leave read a letter
written with a led pencil as with
pen and ink you ask me to Excuse
mistakes and bad writting I
see no mistakes to Excuse whatever
and do not say Bad writting unil
you see this

asking you to Excuse all mistakes
and Pleas write soon
