Gettysburg June 10th 1863
Dear Dan
Yours of the 7th was recieved
& I was glad to hear from you
I expected you would be some-
what homesick the first few days
but presumed you would get
over it after making a few
acquaintances. We are moving
along here as usual. Business
continuing first rate. Sam Anderson
made his appearance here evening
before last would liked very
much to have seen you. He
looks as natural as ever &
intends remaining about some seven
months. You say you do not
hear any war news at West Point
Do you not receive any papers
there? if you do not I will
send you occasionally. We hear
[page 2]
daily of the investments of Vicksburg
but it is not yet taken hope
it will not be many days before
it is. The Colored Company here
under Command of Capt Randolph
Johnston have offered their services
to Gov Andrew of Mass. but
have understood since that
time they will not be allowed to
leave the state but will join
a Colored Regt or Brigade to be
formed in this state. They have
commenced the enrollment
here. Isaac is very much
afraid he will be drafted
We recieved a letter from
Ed today. All quiet at
Norfolk. Rev Finney was
married to Sallie [Ganding?] of
Petersburg yesterday morning
John is improving rapidly. I
had him out Buggy riding
today. Your folks are well

Boys flourishing. Isaac does first
rate & [mash?] tal[??].
Will. Manny & the other Boys Call
occasionally. We have a
[????] of Rebels coming but
of course it is all hoax.
Write often I will be very
glad to hear from you & will
write as often only I may
not be able to give you as
much news as some of the
boys. All desire to be
remembered to you.
Your Friend
