Alexandria Va
Dear Wife undoubtedly you are woring
for our welfare for I learn that our mail
has never went Since we left Harrison
landing for half the the time we have
been Sorounded with the enemy and I
Suppose our mail has been cut off and
our mail has not went So it must be
two weeks since you have recieved any
letter from me I never have recieved
a letter from you from the time
we left Harrison landing till last
night I must confess that I felt
very anxious to hear from you I
hope you will keep a good Stiff upper
lip for I mean to as long as I can alth=
=ough I must confess that it is hard
work for a person to in the Army
for a person has to keep moving
all of the time and a person gets
[Page 2]
tiered in well doing I hope that this
rebelion will Soon Seace for this fighting
is poor pop. but God alone knows when
fighting will end therefore I Shall not worry
let God work his way and we will try and
feel contented if it is on accordance
with his will but if it is all caused by
man then we have a right to complain
but enough of this for the present I hope
if yu go to live along withe Louisa
that you will enjoy yourself for I think
you can if you are a mind So to do I
Suppose that Steve thinks that it will
be funny to belong to the Army if he
has it hard as I have I think he not
think it very funy but I had rather
I enlist than to be drafted for then
a person can go in what company he
wishes but enough of this perhapse it is a
good thing I am in the service for if I
was out I would have to come to it for
God knows that it would be my
[Page 3]
my lot to go in the worst place or at
least it seamed so at the present per=
=hapse I am disposed to find fault if
Such is the case I am sorry for I do not
wish to find fault without a cause
this finding of fault does not amount
under any circumstances for you cannot
make one hair white or black but
enough of this I hope you will keep on
writing as usual and make and send
me a shirt as John’s woman did if
I had recieved that box which we
should had Norman sent it by
express we Should have recieved
it long before this but Such it is the
fate of man should you have a
chance to have Clara likeness taken
you had better for I know not as
I ever shall get that one you Sent
me in that box write soon for I
I must close for I am in quite
a hurry how many days days we
[Page 4]

respects all my friends

and best friend L.A. Granger
