Camp near Bell Plains
Dear Wife
This makes two letters I have wri=
=tten since I recieved one. why I did
not receive a letter last saturday
or sunday night is more than I
can say. perhapse you may have
got a little heedless about writing
as I do myself. I find that it is very
natural for a person to find some
excuse for negligence but what is
the use of making excuses for a person
has a right to think if they do not th=
=ink loud I am well aware unless
Sickness or something of that sort a
person can find time to write Laz=
=yness will conjure up some excuse
I am judging others by myself I cant
Say that it is righteous judgement
for perhapse I am different than
most of the folks. I hope there
is but few meaner men than I
[Page 2]
have been therefore I will find no
more fault but try and do better
in the future I feel very lazy this
afternoon so much so I that I had
rather go to bed than sit up and
write but I have to write often these
days to make up for lost time
time I have fooled away about
writing but enough of this. so to the
subject I enjoy the best of health
better than I have enjoyed since
I left Washington more than one ye=
=ar ago I am getting very fleshy so
much so I am lazy Steve is as fat
as a hog he enjoy the best of health
Philander has gone home on a furlough
I think perhapse he may get his
discharge for I never think his
Arm will ever get sound again
he may get so he can use it for
lite work I am glad he got a chan=
=ce to go home for he needs good
care if he ever gets around again
[Page 3]
it is bad wether for wounded men
I wish I knew whether Wilson had
got home or not he wrote a good while
ago that he expected to get a furl=
ough Soon but one of the boys from
the same Hospital wrote the other day
that all of the boys that were at the
place he was were a getting better
he spoke of Wilson particular that
he was mending very fast I guess
all of the boys that were wounded
in our company will soon be with
us again Captain Lyons and Lieu=
=tenant Hinds are both at home as
for Hinds I wish he might stay there
for I do not wish to see him
back again nor I guess the comp=
=any as a generaly thing he was not
very well liked he felt his oats
most to much to be liked for we
considered he was nothing but
a man at the best I guess I will
find no more fault about
[Page 4]
my Officers but will close my
preamble I hope this letter will
find Clara on the mend and
you enjoying good health for I
enjoy the very best Johns health
is very good as good as he could
ask you must write often as you
can and I will try and do the
same by you there is no great news
to write therefore I must write
short letters and not very sweet
you must write soon
