take the opertunetey 
of writing a few 
lines to you i hope 
thay will finde 
you all well as 
thay leave us at 
present  I receaved 
your kind letter 
dated the 30 Nov severl 
days agow but I 
hav not had the chance 
to answer it that 
money was very [exceptable?]

I wrote you a letter 
on the 28 october  i 
hope you hav got 
it  I wrote Hugh 
Rae on the first Nov 
I hope he has got that 
as he did not get the 
last . I did not write 
all that i should like 
to hav wrote to Hugh 
Rea as i should hav 
bin to late fore 
the mail  we left 
that night that I 
wrote to Hugh Rea 
and crost the river 
we hav had it pretey 
hard all week  the 
weather is giting colde 
hear thare is ise hear

the rebles up all weeke

sharpe worke with 
them but we hav 
not lost a man in 
our rigment yet 
thoe we may loose 
some at aney moment

to call our one  our 
horses our sadled night 
and day  the sadles 
hav onley bin off them 
two nights sin ce we 
crost the river we are 
sadled up now

I told Hugh Rae 
to keepe fiftey dollers

the old man is so unwell
