My Dear wife I
take this opporotunety
of writing a fiw lines
to you I hope thay
will find you all well
as thay leave us at
Present Dear wife you
must excuse me fore not
writing oftner I hav
not got much time
to write and no chance
to mail them when thay
are wrote I hope you
got my last letter
wrote at fredrick citty
and Posted at new market
eight 8 miles beyond [????]

the rebles ware badly

thay will sufer worse
before thay get way
our men arer following
them up on evry road
thay will never fore get
Pensilvania it looks as
if thay ware nearly plade
out this is one of the
finest Parts in this state
the Peaple are very good
to the men we are
twelve miles from higess
toen the rebles are fore
miles from hear I think
our men do not want
to Rush them just now

came hear yesterday some
four thousand men and
some from Penselvania
I was in hopes that i
would see some from
our parte of the contry
but thare was none
I had to Put my letter
to one side yesterday as
wee ware ordered on a
scout we went out
to lightesburg five
5 miles from Hagerstown
and returned to camp
last night we captur
two wagons we expect
to leave hear to day
waynsboro is a nice little
town it seams to hav
a good union sentment the
croops look well hear

it I would be glad
if we could get a
mail from home we get
no news hear worth
speeking of I think thar
will be a big fight
