October the 29th 1864
Deer wife and child i take the
hopertunity of riting to you hoping
that those few lines will find you
in good health as it leaves mee in
good health at present i reseived
your letter this morning and was
glad to hear from you and it
allmost made the tears come in my
eys to see them teeth from my
little girl the one i think and love
so mutch it dont seem as if she
could bee shedding her teeth but
she is i supose wel we are still
laying at the front of petersburg
but nothing unusly acuring every
day there is some one of our ridgeme
t gets hit some killed and some
whounded by the pickets firing
at each other there is some talk
of us comming back to washington
and weather we will or not i can
not tell but i hope we will

when you get this letter rite to
me as son as you can and tell me
wat day of the month you sent
them things so that i will know
when to lok for them it is know
sunday about non noon and we
could hear the church bells ring
very plain it seemed very [all right: in right margin]
natural to hear them it is avery
fine morning and the roads is as
good as ever in summar and
better i think i shall look for
them things this week from what
i can learn from your letter tell
me wat it costs to send them things
out hear and get a receit for
them we are going to muster for
pay to morrow but i dont know
when we shall get paid i have a
hundred and 36 dollars comming
to me this pay day Steves did not
get any pay before since he left home
i would like to know how mutch the
squir as of mine and how mutch
intrest you got it was dew the first
of July imust conclude for the present
so no more from your husband give
my respects to all inquiring frends
