	Dear Ma
 		I take the
present opportunity of writing
you a line knowing that you would
like to hear from me I have received
the letter that you sent by Dick
Leigh I was very glad to hear from
you but was verry sorry to hear
that you was sick but am in hopes
that these few lines will find
you well. I am very glad that the
Children are going to school and that
they are so well pleased with their
teacher I am in hope They will [learn?]
fast I am very much pleased with
my jacket you sent me it fits
me very well I am very glad that
it is so light it will not be so
much wait to carry on a march. we
have had orders to send our extry
bagage to the rear me and cosin Jimme
[page 2]
are going to send ours to cosin
Jimme's Fathers. well I have no news
of interest to write I was in Town
to day and herd that the yankees
were falling back to Chatanooga
I do not think that we will
have a fight here soon. They
had a fight in north Carolina
lately our men whiped [them?]
verry [bad?] they captured 600
prisoners and one Brigadier gen
besides the negros. they are still
looking for a fight in Verginia
1 do not think that they will
fight here untill that
fight is over there April
the [29?] I am now on picket
2 miles from camp the
Brigade are moving today
5 miles above Dalton be
tween Dalton and Tunnelhill
they say that they are moving
out of there winter quarters
[page 3]
to harden them for the
spring campaign I think
that is a verry good
ider and the wood was getting
very scarce around our camp
the Boys are all well and in
fine spirits. we have prar
meeting every night in the
regiment Joe Littleton has
professed religion and a gre
at miny others in the reg
